Kathy Lemaire has been Chief Executive of the School Library Association since 1997. She is a chartered librarian and has worked in a variety of public and school library service posts since the 1970s. Prior to taking up her post with the SLA she was Principal Librarian with Oxfordshire School Library Service, and Local Education Authority Advisor for School Libraries, supporting 240 schools.  Her professional interests lie in the fields of Information Literacy and Children’s Literature. Kathy was until 2005 a member of the Executive of the International Association of School Librarianship (IASL) where she served for 6 years as Financial Officer, and she was also for 4 years a member of the standing section on school library resource centres of the International Federation of Library Associations (IFLA). She was a member of the recent UK Department for Education and Skills Working Group on School Libraries, and was a founding member of ENSIL, the European body dedicated to promote the cause of school libraries within Europe.   She is an invited speaker at conferences and training courses on school libraries in countries such as Portugal, Russia, Hungary, Spain and Lithuania and has articles published in journals in Australia, Spain and Russia.  She was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts in 2002.
